Good to know, frequently asked
Where does the journey start and end?
The journey begins with an individual arrival at Catania Airport, where the group meets before setting off through Sicily, Calabria, Campania and Lazio. The journey ends in Tivoli (nearby Rome), from where you can continue your journey independently or make your way to Rome.
What interests does this journey focus on?
This journey brings together history, culture, landscapes, local traditions and culinary heritage across four regions of Southern Italy. From ancient Greek and Roman sites to medieval villages, Baroque towns, coastal landscapes and traditional food, each destination offers a different perspective on the rich cultural heritage and everyday life of the South.
How physically demanding is this journey?
This is a moderate-paced journey, but a reasonable level of fitness is recommended. You should be comfortable walking for longer periods, including during town visits, guided walks and cultural experiences. Some historic towns and rural sites include steps, slopes, cobbled streets or uneven surfaces. Comfortable walking shoes are essential
How much free time will I have?
The itinerary combines organised experiences with time to enjoy the destinations at your own pace. There is room to wander through historic towns, enjoy seaside villages, stop for a coffee or gelato, take in the Mediterranean views or simply embrace the slower rhythm of Southern Italy.

The journey combines public transport with private transfers, depending on the destination and itinerary. This offers a comfortable way to travel while also allowing us to experience Italy as locals do and enjoy the changing landscapes along the way.
What kind of experiences are included?
The journey combines guided visits, historic sites, walks, local encounters, culinary experiences and time by the sea. Highlights include ancient Greek and Roman heritage, a visit to a buffalo mozzarella dairy, wine tastings, a hands-on cooking class, a boat trip along the Mediterranean coast and Villa d’Este with its magnificent Renaissance gardens.

How is the 14-day journey different from the 9-day best of journey?
The 14-day journey is the full edition of The South, following the complete route through Sicily, Calabria, Campania and Lazio and allowing more time to explore each destination in greater depth. Absolutely. The journey offers a fascinating introduction to Southern Italy while going well beyond the country’s most familiar destinations. Across 14 days, you will discover different regions, landscapes, historical influences, traditions and ways of life – making it ideal both for first-time visitors and for those who already know Italy and want to explore a more authentic side of the country.
